5,0 von 5 Sternen Great Shovel
Bewertet in Kanada am 30. November 2024
Easy to put together and works like a charm. Clears right to the pavement. Really long snow throw. Love the directional change ability. Not super loud. Easy to maneuver. Happy with this purchase.

I chose this Voltask over its competitors on Amazon because:
      1) it has wheels
      2) it has directional "fins"
      3) at 16" it is wider than most power snow shovels so requires fewer passes to clear the snow.
      4) the batteries go into the base unit instead of at the top of the handle. Having the battery weight lower allows the unit to stand up unattended. I am not sure whether competitors with the batteries at the top would stand up or if the top-heavy weight would make them fall.

The unit was very easy to assemble. Although most of the unit is plastic, it is well-built.

I have used it three times so far:

The first time was with about an inch of VERY heavy slushy snow. It threw the snow maybe 3 feet, but enough to do the job. After a while, the directional fins got stuck and would only turn to one side, not the other. The Voltask was very easy to maneuver. After completing my 30' x 16' driveway and about 20 feet of 3' sidewalk, the battery indicators showed they were down only one light out of three.

The second use was with about 2-3 inches of average wetness/weight snow. It threw it about 6-7 feet. It took about half the time and 1/4 of the effort compared to using a manual snow shovel. The directional fins did not get stuck this time and proved useful.

The third time was with 3-4" of semi-fluffy snow. The Voltask threw it about 10 feet. The city snow plow left about 6-8" at the end of the driveway and it cut through that with no problem. The fins operated normally and didn't get stuck.

The wheels have proven to be a big plus for the Voltask. In some situations I needed to pull it backwards. Without wheels, it would have just drug on the concrete. The wheels make it easy to pull backwards.

The directional fins help. They only rotate to 30 degrees in each direction, so are somewhat limited, but having them is still a plus compared to most of its competitors. The 16" width is a plus. Most competitors are 12"-13"

The batteries have easily lasted long enough to complete the job each time I have used it. The battery charger has slots for both batteries so you can put them in the charger at the same time.

      Cons/areas for improvement:

      1) Like all the power snow shovel brands, a longer main handle/shaft would be nice. If I had needed to use the extra D-shaped second handle, (the one that attaches to the main shaft below the main handle), I would have had to bend over, which my back would not appreciate. For at least the two times I have used it so far, I did not have to use that extra handle and was able to stand up straight and use only the top handle (I am 6 feet tall). A deeper or wetter snow may require using the second handle to get more leverage to push through the snow. Time will tell in that regard. UPDATE: I was able to go through 6-8" of snow left by the city plow at the end of the driveway without needing to use the extra handle.

      2) The directional fins, while a plus for even having them, are limited to 30 degrees in each direction and got stuck the first time I used it. The heavy snow got caught in the fins and prevented them from turning in one direction. The next two uses with snow that wasn't so slushy, the fins operated with no problem. The lever to change the fin direction is on the base so you have to bend over to change it.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Preliminary Experience: 4.5 Star (final rating will be based on snow performance)

      Snow Performance:
      1) Will update when it snow. From preliminary experience of testing the unit, the motor seems powerful. I typically won't write a review until I test every aspect of the product but forecast shows that there won't be any snow soon even though I had to shovel before I order this.

      Pro:
      1) Battery came fully charged plus it has a button for battery indicator
      2) Flash Light came charged and has red/green light indicator for charging.
      3) Wrench was provided. Previously review said no wrench was provided so that mean the company is listening to feedback and making improvement.
      4) Included a USB to USB-C cable (~ 3 ft). I just use my phone charger.
      5) Safety button included. Press safety and hold it with thumb before squeezing handle to start.
      6) Ease of movement with wheel. Got it so that my parent in their upper 60s can use it when I'm not available to do so.
      7) Seems to be quick duo slot charging. Fully charged mine in ~10min after I play test it. Description said it take like 30-90min to charge.

      Con: (-0.5 star)
-1a) Hole is not drilled through or threaded as mentioned by some reviewers. I faced similar issue but it's not true. Upon closer inspection, the handle has a double tubing. The inside tubing was shifted to the side so I used a wrench and turn it clockwise/ccw. Simple fix in less than 5 sec. See included pics and vid.
-1b) While this may due to shipping impact causing it to move (probably more of QC since I need a wrench to move turn it), I would suggest the company to put like paper roll into the hole to hold it into place. Spare them fee from user-return.

      Neutral
      1) Light bulb are cool but not really needed in my area that is well lit. Plus I wouldn't want to use this at night due to noise level.
      2) Unit does have some weight to it. From description, about 20 lb. I can carry it with one hand but most likely will end up using two. It may be a bit heavy for elderly and less fit personel. You can push it on it wheel no problem even for elder, but should reconsider if you need to carry it up or down the stair. I suppose you can drag it but that may scratch the unit or wooding.
      3) Directional Knob. Turning it to change the fin direction require more strength than what I see from video review. Rough comparison of strength needed would be opening a soda bottle cap per notch turned.
      4) Replacement/Extra battery is expensive since it needed two. I would be willing to pay a bit more if the battery capacity was larger for 1 hour usage.
      5) Noise level is similar to a home vacuum.
      6) Battery compartment cover uses a hinge. I fear it may break down one day if I do it too roughly.

      Assembly
      - Pretty straight forward with 5 steps.
      1. Insert screw into upper handle and tighten with knob (by hand)
      2. Insert screw into bottom handle and tighten with knob
      3. Insert handbar onto handle and tighten with knob
      4. Insert flash light onto handle and tighen with knob
      5. Insert handle into unit then tighten screw with included wrench. Done.

      Tips
      1) When the blade is in front, the unit will stand by itself due to more weight. When the blade is toward the back, the unit is prone to fall over and have to lean against the wall for storage which many reviewer were facing. You can manually turn the blade for this. Make sure to you remove battery and such for safety reason.

      2) When attaching handle to unit, make sure it is fully inserted. Otherwise, the screw will not reach. If you rub your finger across it, it must be smooth between the crevices. I have seen pics of other reviewer where it was not fully push in and gave negative review.

4,0 von 5 Sternen arrived with missing parts - but once that was solved the shovel is great.

      Item arrived with missing parts.
      Cannot request missing parts.
Can’t set shovel up without the missing piece.

EDIT - Amazon sent a replacement, and after using it in the snow, the shovel was great. It got through a few inches of light fluffy snow. Have not tried it on wet snow yet. But so far it worked great.

the redirecting knob got stiff at one point but it wasn't too bad. Just had to use a bit more force

This is, by far, the best snow blower I've ever purchased. Packs a punch, 16" path, has wheels and directional throwing. Batteries are easy to remove and insert. Senior friendly.
